“Where are your papers?” the Officer Demanded

Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both. ~ Benjamin Franklin

RealID (H.R. 418 and H.R. 1268) is being touted by the American federal government and the Department of Homeland Security (herein referred to as DHS) as a programme that will help Americans live more secure lives in their nation by having a single piece of federally approved ID that consolidates all their information, including biometric data into a single use entity. But that is not the reality as we know it. The reality is that this is one more step by the American government toward a police state, in which people pay for their “security” with their freedom, a cost too dear.

With each piece of information that each citizen provides to their government, that is one more piece of information the government can use against you. Each revelation hands your private life into the hands of those who can easily destroy it. With the surrendering of valuable information into a single mega-database, the likelihood of identity theft occurring is increased tenfold. That sensitive information is easily available to those who don’t need to know certain things.

Without this piece of federally sanctioned ID, Americans would be denied entry into federal buildings. For this, RealID is dangerous, for it limits the freedom that would have other wise be guaranteed for Americans through the constitution. The restrictions include and are not limited to:

  • Driving your car
  • Boarding a plane, train, or bus
  • Entering any federal building
  • Opening a bank account
  • Holding a job

Scary. To think. A simple piece of ID would limit one’s mobility rights. It would effectively violate the right to travel (mobility rights). In Saenz v. Roe, it was ruled that the right to travel is protected by the Fourteenth Amendment. This would override a constitutional right that would have otherwise been a natural right for all American citizens.

Imagine, not being able to board a city bus without proof of ID.  The right to go about your business without being tracked would be compromised.  We as humans have the right to do stupid shit.  We also have the right to travel within our own nation without worrying about being stopped just because someone in a position of authority is on a power trip.

Or trying to open a bank account.  You wouldn’t even have a safe place to put your money.  If it was bad enough to think the government could access your library borrow records, imagine if they could find out your financial information?  While some might say that it’ll lower rates of tax fraud, it would also limit a person’s right to object to paying federal income tax, as this frequently clashes with state law, in that if you’ve paid your state taxes, you don’t pay federal.

This wouldn’t do anything to deter terrorism. It is another step to limit democracy, and remove control from the people. These documents may be able to tell the government who you are and what your blood type is and when you last took a shit and where but not what matters, your intent. It will not be able to stop terrorism because these papers will not contain anything on intent.

This data will not only land in the hands of the government but also private organizations who would be able to hold onto that data and then in turn sell it. A whole lot is at stake with this system and yet there was no way to effective way to combat terrorism. The cost is too great to justify something that will not curb terrorism.

The initial cost of programme implementation is estimated at 23-billion US dollars. There is no guarantee of federal coverage, placing the burden on the state, a good number of which could easily be considered “poor” and “cash-strapped”. What’s more important, enforcing a national ID system or repairing ageing, crumbling infrastructure? Fixing those levies or making sure that everyone has their papers?

Someone might tell you that you ought to accept it because it’s for the good of national security. That this is part of the war on terrorism. But, no one has to accept this kind of abuse, this loss and invasion of privacy. There are ways to fight back even if you feel powerless. There are ways to do it without taking too much time. It is as simple as supporting and donating to groups that are oppose to RealID and are taking the fight all the way to the top.

There are states that are opposed to it, much to the dismay of the DHS. There are 17 states to date that have decided that this system is detrimental to the well being of their citizens. The states currently opposing RealID are: Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Maine, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah and Washington…

There are a handful of other states where anti-RealID legislations are pending. They include and are not limited to Alaska, Kentucky, Ohio, Wisconsin. There are others that have similar pending pieces of legislation that still needs to be voted upon. These are many states that are defying the federal government in the name of what is good for the people.

Of course, not all states are opposed. The DHS has praised the following states as being ‘progressive’: California, Alabama and North Dakota. Michigan is also showing signs that it favours the oppressive move.

Four out of fifty isn’t enough to make a difference.

It is odd isn’t it? Two of those favouring the measure are traditionally blue states, and two are red states. Odd that a blue state would welcome such an oppressive measure. Or that anyone would be in favour of such measures.

Bush is indeed a uniter. He has united the nation against him, and against his administration.

Traditional groups that have been labelled as ‘liberal’ like the Sierra Club and the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) are on the same page as many religious organizations in their opposition to the RealID act. A common cause is what these different factions have in common. An enemy greater than their ideologies.

For this measure to fail, Americans have to reject it. Even a small, token rejection goes a long way. If the government meets a resistance force greater than the enforcement force it will be forced to look into the jaws of failure because the people have spoken.

1930s Germany had a national ID system. The people thought it was for their own good. But in this era, we have a great amount of information available to us. Fight tyranny before it can take root in your own backyard.

Incognito Mercenaries Launch W3 Assault

They have no name, no face. They are unknown to the source that they attack. They do not associate a name with themselves. They simply opt to call themselves Anonymous and have taken a risk by declaring war on CoS. They declared in a YouTube video that they are tired of the trail of lies, suppression of descent and misinformation and deceit lain by the CoS in its wake, as it competes with other more prominent mainstream religious organizations (ie: Christianity, Judaism and Islam) to see who can spin the more ludicrous tales, and spread a doctrine of lies.

Anonymous, no one knows who they are. Some suspect that they are kids with a suicide wish. That these children are in over their heads and that they will be paraded in handcuffs on CNN, their faces shown across North America and Europe, as their campaign is brought to their knees. Others believe these to be a group of hackers who are acting independent yet dependant in each other. Like cats. Each on its own cannot make a lot of noise but together they can inflict damage.

They have released their message to the world and they have made their intentions known. They themselves remain unknowable, at least for now, as they act through their online portal: Project Chanology (the same site contains a lot of highly unrelated matieral, then again, that’s what comes of being open source). Though this site they have encouraged people of a similar mindset to launch a campaign of mischief, of quasi-legal activity against an entity that in itself is known to engage in questionable activities, justified simply with the “fair game” clause.

A brief and cursory examination of the site is revealing, as the site relies on the use of open source code, ie: wiki code. They allow for anonymous editing yet the IPs are logged (kind of defeats the purpose of ‘anonymous’, doesn’t it?). From this, the casual user can gather that the people contributing to the article are coming from a wide range of backgrounds from petty, vendetta-minded children to smooth operators who know how to operate without getting in over their head. An interesting composition of individuals if nothing more.

The same group, though loosely associated had hacked into the CoS servers back on January 16th and acquired a video of one of CoS’ more prominent spokespersons. The video was released, and unsuccessfully removed from the internet. Along the same lines, secret documents that are rarely available to members of CoS were acquired during a raid and released on stages on digg and reddit (both sited as being important for the cause and as such, irritating those two large web 2.0 sites would be internet suicide for a group seeking to garner support for an underground cause) for unaffiliated individuals to download for their own perusal and mocking purposes.

If one is curious, as I’m sure most people are since this is one of the first widely known events of this kind, here are some links I’ve found on this while scouring digg for something of value to add to this otherwise mundane entry. If you want to see what is out there, being supplied though the batshit insane efforts of Anonymous click*: here, here, and here… for starters.

* We do not endorse the credibility of the site. We’re just very lazy and this is the first bit of stuff we’ve found. Advance at your own discretion.

The attacks of Anonymous include DoS (Denial of Service attacks), spamming of the phone lines, the bombardment of fax machines through the use of looping black paper though the sending fax in order to cause the recipient to be overloaded. They have called a short term hiatus on the DoS attacks in favour of Google bombing, as another means of raising awareness to their cause.

Will this get them attention? It seems that they have already got some attention, namely from European sources. The Dutch (here, here, and here) and German (here, here, here and here) news outlets have been taking note of these actions, as well as FOX. There is a full list of the coverage available here.

Why are we covering this? Because it’s amusing to see two groups, especially ones where the people to act in a brain-washed manner or rashly for a cause that will result in a large amount of collateral damage being done to both sides. Neither shall exeunt unscathed from the foray. The ones who will benefit most from this are the bloggers, pundits, media outlets and those who have acquired the documents that were released to the public; essentially anyone who is not directly involved.

At the end of it all, even if someone is busted in correlation to this, not everyone involved will be known because some people are better at others at covering their tracks and will have strategically planned their assault so it would be launched through a series of proxy servers, effectively leading to a trail of shattered glass and broken pieces of bits and bytes.

No one will be silenced by this so long as both sides believe so blindly in their cause that they would be martyrs for it; so they would be able to go to paradise and redeem their 72 virgins.

EDIT - In subsequent video response to one of the news reports released on a MSM network, NBC, Anonymous has released their video, stating that they have noticed that the MSM has failed to make the true motive of Anonymous known in their reporting and has hence failed.   That their purpose is to end the campaign of lies and deceit lain by CoS.

We would like to note that there is something odd about this.  The videos are well done and the script used is craftily and eloquently composed in order to make a case and point for Anomymous’ cause and crusade against the CoS.  Yet the site that is the main portal for this contains segments written by someone with a good comprehension of English while other segments amount to nothing more than childish scribblings on the kitchen wall in red crayon.

VT Shootings: Fate Written in Blood

The first shots rang out at 7:15am in the one of the dormitories at Virginia Tech. Two people died. Several were wounded.

No one was warned and the police didn’t think to shut down the school and the students continued to naively go about their daily routine, when the peaceful reverie was shattered more than two hours later at 9:50am.

In the engineering building a gunman opened fire, killing 30 students before he took his own life.

Fear could be sensed in the corridors as students took cover. Some barricaded themselves in classrooms. Survivors reported seeing the gunman come back to clean up and take the lives of people whom had been missed the first time. Others reported seeing and hearing shots as they sought refuge, but a common element that all the survivors and students share is that there was no warning of a gunman on campus after the first incident, which was initially deemed to be an isolated domestic issue.

This opens the door for many questions…

  • Why didn’t the police shut down the campus and increase presence?
  • Why didn’t the school send out notifications about the initial attack?
  • Why was the gunman allowed to walk free after the first incident?
  • Why was a student on a visa; a South Korean citizen, not an American citizen provided with the rights guaranteed in the 2nd amendment?

There are many other questions that are swimming around, but it seems like the most trying point is the existence of the second amendment, which gives American citizens gun rights.

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

Hold on a minute, it doesn’t explicitly state that anyone can have guns, so why are the firearms readily available to anyone who wants it? Are there militias forming in the US now, or is this a remnant of the Colonial days when the colonists made this declaration to protect themselves against British invaders?

Homer: TV said that…? But I have to have a gun! It’s in the Constitution!
Lisa: Dad! The Second Amendment is just a remnant from revolutionary days. It has no meaning today!
Homer: You couldn’t be more wrong, Lisa. If I didn’t have this gun, the King of England could just walk in here any time he wants, and start shoving you around. [pushing Lisa] Do you want that? [pushing her harder] Huh? Do you?
Lisa: [quietly indignant] No…

The gun lobby will no doubt be saying that despite that a gun was used to do the 33 killings that a gun cannot without human intervention kill a person.  But, regardless if human interaction required, the gun is the tool used to do the killings and the gun killed those people and the person who did the shootings used the gun to kill.

Aside from that political agenda, the other that has come up is that of Jack Thompson who would love nothing more than to ban all violent video games.  Luckily his penchant for grade-A ignorance and notoriety for the pursuit of frivolous litigations has completely discredited him in the eyes of the court.   In a standard anti-game tirade, he has declare, well before the identity of the gunman was known that the cause of the shootings was violent video games.

If violent video games cause people to go on murderous rampages, then how does it explain the actions of:

  • Adolf Hitler?
  • Josef Stalin?
  • Pol Pot?
  • Julius Caesar
  • Queen Mary 1st?
  • Elizabeth Borden?
  • John Wilkes Booth?
  • Lee Harvey Oswald?
  • et cetera; ad nauseum

It’s “lawyers” like him that discredit the rest of the American Bar Association and gives it a bad name as an organisation and discredits it as a viable organisation of attorneys who are there to serve America either as prosecution or defence.

At the end of the day, nothing will have changed however.  The gun lobby will still be defending guns and people will be pointing fingers and nothing will be done to prevent another tragedy like this until a politician’s child gets hurt.  Only when the elite feel the burn will something happen.  Until then they will only pretend to understand the pain of the victims and their families (secondary victims).

The families will grieve; so will the community but nothing will come of this other than more meaningless crime statistics because politicians weren’t the ones affected by this directly.

9/11 Key Confession

About five and a half years and two wars later, a revelation hits the airwaves, the person responsible for master-minding one of the greatest attacks against civilian populations in history is not who the American government has claimed. Osama bin Laden is but a speck of dust in comparison. There is a new player, a new kid on the block who has confessed to being the one who help to orchestrate the attacks. His name, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. He lays claim to a number of significant attacks against the US.

“I was responsible for the 9/11 operation, from A to Z,” said Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in a partial transcript from a closed-door hearing.

There was no mention of bin Laden’s name in the transcript of his confession. The absence of the name leaves the door open for wild theories, and the question, does bin Laden really exist if at all, or are we chasing a phantom through the wild outback of Afghanistan? Is the War on Terror chasing after an invisible enemy, just like the War on Drugs?

For the first few years of the 21st century we have been led to believe that a millionaire Saudi, by the name of Osama bin Laden was responsible for the attacks and much more yet, after the attacks, while there were tapes of him praising the attacks, he never did claim responsibility for the attacks, the American government only claimed that he did. We have been reminded through the media that it was al-Qaeda who was responsible for the attacks and that the Taleban was also partially responsible, and that Iraq was linked to al-Qaeda.

We were told that Iraq supplied al-Qaeda with the terrorists. Yet the hijackers who flew the plans into the World Trade Centres, Pentagon and into the field in Pennsylvania, are overwhelmingly from Saudi Arabia. But, the Americans led a coalition to invade Iraq.

We were told that bin Laden was hiding in somewhere in the Tora Bora region of Afghanistan and that we needed to find him and bring him to justice, yet the man who has claimed to be the mastermind behind the attacks is from Kuwait.

Is it any surprise that cockamine theories about the 9/11 attacks continue to permeate the vast reaches of the internet today; where conspiracy theorists can post their ideas anonymously? There is so much secrecy. The American government isn’t telling us anything and yet expecting support from other world governments. It expects us to blindly follow them as they police the world.

In the five and a half years since the attacks, there has been little information made available to the public and what they feed us is complete and utter tripe. The governments are hiding something, and the people have a right to know.
